Cypress Carpet - Dodford

Cypress Carpet was taken in Dodford on 26/06/2018. I know there were a few recorded last year in Worcs and I suspect we will get even more this year as it continues to spread. No shortage of the foodplant anyway!

Plume Moths

It seems to be a good day for Plume Moths in my garden at Wofferwood Common today with 2 new species for my list. Both ID's were made online and any corrections welcome.

The first Marasmacha lunaedactyla found on the outside of my kitchen window. I have not seen the foodplant (Restharrow) growing locally so presumably the moth has flown in from elsewhere.

The second Gillmeria pallidactyla was disturbed from my garden lawn.

Ruddy Carpet - Dodford

Trapped in the garden on Sunday night (24/6/18) and (maybe foolishly) put  out 3 traps, 2x MV and an actinic. It was a clear night with little wind and temperatures ranged from 17.9 to 12.9.

All 3 traps were busy in the morning and there was a total of 128 species and 734 moths in total.

Star of the show was Ruddy Carpet. New for me and new for the garden.

Also new for the garden were Satin Beauty, Scoparia basistrigalis and Small Yellow Wave (no photo)

Another Belter

I joined Rob Hemming today to look for Clearwings.  Partial success as we lured two Red Belted Clearwing moths to the MYO and CUL lures near to an old apple tree in Woolhope.  Later in the day I also recorded the same species in the garden here on Bringsty (just using CUL). Peter Hall

Wood Sage Plume

This distinctive Wood Sage Plume, Capperia britanniodactylus, came to my garden at Norchard, Worcs  last night for the first time. It has been recorded from Hartlebury Common, which is only three miles away, and may have roamed from there. The lower picture is a Dotted Border Wave which was netted on the Common in 2007.

Dodford 8th June 2018

A mainly clear night with a low of 12.9. I put out a 2 traps and got 61 species. New for the year included Mottled Rustic, Nemophora degeerella (male), Broom moth and Cochylis nana.

New for the garden was Ananaia fuscalis

And one that I am not sure of.
I've been through all the small waves and the best I can come up with is Dotted Border Wave? Wingspan is about 20mm. However DBW only seems to have been recorded in Hartlebury Common in Worcestershire.

Any thoughts?

Hummingbird Hawk-moth

This Hummingbird Hawk-moth came to my Valerian at Norchard, Worcs on Sunday evening. There were around twenty Silver Y moths also present. A bat sp. landed in the Valerian last night presumably after the Silver Y's.

Mansell Gamage Monday 04/06/18

About 28 species last night including an Orange Footman

I would appreciate confirmation of the following two:

I think this may be a Vine's Rustic?

Is this a Dark Brocade?

Thanks,
Penny

Mansell Gamage

I'm glad to be trapping again after a prolonged problem with my light. Sunday 3rd June recorded about 22 species. I could do with help with the following:

Coronet f. coronula. Can anyone confirm?

Can anyone identify this one please? FW length about 15mm

Thank You.
Penny

Wofferwood Common

3 new species for my garden list in the trap last night.

Lime Hawkmoth - I'm surprised I haven't had this species here before now.

Telechrysis tripuncta - I think I have the ID right on this one.

This micro Luquetia lobella was the pick of the moths last night here at Norchard, Worcs.
