Longhorns

Excuse the dull picture but I picked up this Longhorn sunning itself this morning at Miners Rest NR, the Doward. Looks to me like a Cauchas rufimitrella which may be new to the 10km square (unless John Walshe has found them?). I've also seen Adela reamurella and a Nematopogon sp on local walks this week. Bit early though ? (like the beech trees)

  1. I always find these difficult from photographs, much easier in the flesh and invariable low down on flowers, often garlic mustard (always garlic mustard in our garden). Usually into May up here on the cool Birmingham plateau.

  2. I think that looks good for rufimitrella. Over here in Bucks where it is common I don't usually see them until the first week of May but that's only a couple of weeks away. As Patrick says, they're almost always found sitting around on cuckoo-flower or garlic mustard (the food-plants) - is that what you found it on?
