Tiddesley Wood 1/5/15

A small group trapped in Tiddesley Wood this Friday evening despite rather low forecast temperatures. Not good trapping weather at all, but I had been asked to provide some 'livestock' for the Tiddesely Open Day on the following Sunday.

In the end we did not do too badly considering the temperature.
Seraphim was probably the most abundant moth in the traps. Some fresh Oak Tree Pugs were about and one or two worn Brindled pugs were still hanging on.
Some very fresh late spring moths struggled into the traps: Chocolate Tip, Maiden's Blush and Small Phoenix. The only micros recorded were Nematopogon swammerdamella, Syndemis musculana and feeding signs of Coleophora lusciniaepennella found on a sallow sapling in the car park.
Moth of the night was a very smart Mocha which appeared late on, just before we called it a night at about 12:00

Returning to the wood on Saturday afternoon, to drop off the few moths we potted up for Sunday's open day, I found Micropterix calthella on the Pendulous Sedge and an old case of Psyche casta on a fence post.
